Despite the Games, India’s Still a Winner

So far the Commonwealth Games has been a public relations disaster for India. Does it reflect the abilities of one of the world’s fastest growing economies?

John Lee is a foreign policy fellow at the Centre for Independent Studies. In today’s BTalk he says we shouldn’t judge the economy on the incompetence of the government sector. The GDP is growing quickly, all thanks to a rapidly expanding independent corporate sector. The industries that have been showing the most growth are those less reliant on infrastructure — imagine what growth could be achieved if the government got its act together and helped businesses to grow, rather than seeing the economy expand despite the public sector.

America and Japan have realised the business opportunities that exist — Australia seems to be slower to realise the potential.
