Death of a rock star

Steve Jobs was Apple. In this special edition of Twisted Wire we look back at his career and also ask how the company will survive without him.

An Apple ad from 1997 said “The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do”. They are fitting words for the career of the man who brought us the Mac, iPod, iPhone and iPad.

In fact Jobs always seemed to know exactly what we wanted, sometimes before we did ourselves. Less than six months ago I asked myself, “Why would I want an iPad?” — now I can’t do without it. I’d get rid of the TV first!

In the program you’ll hear from Jan Dawson, chief telecoms analyst at Ovum. I spoke to him when Jobs stepped down from his CEO role and asked whether the company would ever be the same again. He says the company under Jobs was like a band that needed hit records to survive. So can Apple continue to deliver those chart toppers now that the rock star has died?

Prepare to reminisce as we listen again to some of Steve Jobs’ talks and some classic Apple ads.

The Apple website says today “Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being”. Have a listen to the podcast and tell us your thoughts on Steve Jobs in the Talkback section below.
