The two parties hoping to form a coalition government – two populist Eurosceptic parties – suggested that they couldn’t form a government because their choice of finance minister, Paola Savona, was too anti-Europe for their EU loving President Sergio Matterella, who instead decided Carlo Cottarelli was going to head the new government – an unelected prime minister who is nicknamed Mr. Scissors, because he likes to make budget cuts – which is precisely what the people who voted for these parties were voting against.
