Here are case studies of some of the companies I have worked for over the years. I've tried to restrict commercially sensitive information to details that are already in the public domain.

British Tourist Authority - How a Retail Channel Can Add Value

In the early 90s I was the Australian Marketing Manager for the British Tourist Authority. Australian visitors were spending more of their European holiday on the continent and less time spending money in Britain. I established BritAgents as a channel referral program, where BTA enquirers were sent to retailers who had been trained to pre-book and upsell.read more

Eisa - Life Wasn't Meant To Be Eisa

I was the Marketing Manager for this dot.com company that turned into a dot-bomb disaster. My role was to write the Prospectus and boost customer numbers in readiness for an ASX listing. A year later the money was spent, the majority shareholder had fled the country to avoid bankruptcy charges and the CEO had resigned amid allegations of misuse of company funds. read more

COMindico - the first national converged IP network

COMindico was an impressive story. It was Australia's first national IP network, offering converged voice, data and video. For my part I wrote the Information Memorandum that raised a quarter of a billion dollars in investor funding, then built the product marketing team. read more

Telstra.com - Project Gateway

In just a few years telstra.com had grown to become a massive, but underused website. Sure it got lots of front page hits because it was the default homepage for Bigpond internet customers and because Telstra was offering free webmail accounts to anyone who wanted one. But few visitors went beyond the front page. My job was to transform the site into an effective channel to market, and that meant not just changes to the content but changes to how the website was managed. read more

OzEmail - The Rise and Death of OzEmail

I joined OzEmail when it was owned by Worldcom, just as the huge American telco was coming out of Chapter 11. The company had been slow to launch broadband and I was charged with lifting sales and reinvigorating the OzEmail brand. I think I did both well, not realising that the end game was to sell the company. $110 million later and the company is in iiNet's hands and the OzEmail brand is dead. Shame that, but at least I met my wife there!read more

Engin - Getting The Engin Running

Engin is a broadband phone company. It uses Voice over IP technology to deliver low cost phone calls to the home and business user. Today Channel 7 is the majority owner. In 2007 I headed the marketing function, with some aspirational customer targets. My legacy is a strong brand and a period of high growth - but not as high as they wanted.read more
