The Commonwealth Bank has just released its second Viewpoint economic vitality report, based on an analysis of transaction records of its 10 million or so customers.
The report shows that workers in some of our mining areas are attracting salaries considerably higher than the national average — so are these benefits being spread to the broader economy?
In this edition of BTalk I discuss the report with the CommBank’s chief economist Michael Blythe. I ask whether this data supports the need for a resources super profits tax. We also look at the broader outlook and a study of consumer attitudes showing that those who believe the economy is strong are still in a minority.
