The UK has made a unilateral decision to extend the grace period of border checks for food imports into Northern Ireland. The EU says it is a breach of the Northern Ireland protocol and are threatening to sue. Meanwhile supermarkets are moving warehouses to the Republic of Ireland to service this detached part of the UK. Today Phil Dobbie asks Prof Alex de Ruyter if there’s a workable solution to the problems of the Irish border, and whether the Northern Ireland protocol could ever be the answer?
